Song Analysis Apologize- One Republic

April 27, 2008 at 7:04 am (Uncategorized)

Apologize by One Republic is a piano rock. People love this song because it relates to numerous people. Its slow melody and its lyrics describe the relationship between a guy and his lover that didn’t work out well.

Verse 1=

I’m holding on your rope,

got me ten feet off the ground

I’m hearing what you say but I just can’t make a sound

You tell me that you need me

Then you go and cut me down, but wait

You tell me that you’re sorry

Didn’t think I’d turn around, and say

Analysis: The rope symbolizes his eagerness to be with her and to make her happy. She pulls him up and he climbs up very high into the relationship, risking everything to devote his whole heart towards her. Unfortunately she plays with his mind, gives him mixed messages and false hope then cuts him off. However, soon she regrets cutting him off and apologizes, expecting him to forgive her and accept her, but he says…

Chorus:

It’s too late to apologize, it’s too late

I said it’s too late to apologize, it’s too late

- self explanatory -

Verse 2:

I’d take another chance, take a fall

take a shot for you

And I need you like a hear needs a beat

But it’s nothing new

Analysis: He is willing to risk getting hurt again to be with her. He is even willing to risk his life, because he needs her so badly. However, this is not the first time she has broken his heart.
Verse 3:
I loved you with a fire red-
Now it’s turning blue, and you say…
“Sorry” like the angel heaven let me think was you
But I’m afraid…
Analysis: He loved her passionately with burning heart. However, now his love is slowly being exhausted and he doesn’t know how much more ache his heart can take. She apologizes like an angel, the angel he always thought heaven had sent him. However he’s afraid to trust her again.

It’s too late to apologize, it’s too late

I said It’s too late to apologize, it’s too late

It’s too late to apologize, it’s too late

I said it’s too late to apologize, it’s too late

It’s too late to apologize, yeah

I said it’s too late to apolobize, yeah-

I’m holding on your rope, got me ten feet off the ground…

Analysis: It was too late for her to realize how precious person she lost. “I’m holding on your rope, got me ten feet off the ground” means that he reminisces their love.

I respect your analysis, but I have to correct that if you study physics or chemistry, when a fire is blue, it is actually *hotter* than a red flame. So it (the love) was not being exhausted, rather it was increasing until the lines regarding to the angel.

    Interesting explication.

i dont think the songwriter took chemistry into consideration while writing this. most people who hear that a flame of love goes from red to blue would think that the love has gone down, not increased. im just sayin

Can some one tell me what the theme is, following this
:In a sentence, what is the theme? In other words, what statement about life is the poet making? Be careful: theme is difficult to nail down, and all too often students put down the subject matter instead of the theme
Identifie and explaine 3 possible themes in 5-8 sentences..
THANK YOU! IF YOU REPLY TO ME PUT @zaidan thanks.
