We all know what happened in Omaha Beach during the World War II. We know what happened through pictures, history books, and even movies. When I think of Omaha Beach, I think of bombs exploding everywhere, people dying, machineguns shooting from everywhere, and devastating scene. In the movie “Saving Private Ryan”, there is a scene where Allied soldiers land on the devastating Omaha Beach. In order to film this scene, they had to use thousands of people dressed up as a soldier.

The way they filmed the Omaha Beach scene on “Saving Private Ryan” is 1998 20th centurys way. Now, in 21st century with modern technology, we are capable of filming this scene with only 3 people!. Richard Hammond proved that it is possible to film this scene with 3 people with 3 graphic designers, 1 car, some equipments, and his camera.

The way he made this possible required alot of work. First, he divided the beach into layers. He would film 3 soldiers running in that layer and then move on to different layers. Then he would combine those layers and make it into one. “Cliff climbing scene” required “green screen”. he filmed the scene where soldiers are climbing the cliff with green screen on the background. After he filmed everything, he edited the film with graphics. After he finished editing, the outcome was fantastic. It looked just like “Saving Private Ryan”’s Omaha Beach.
