Flippin’

Girl with a pearl earring is a masterpiece, painted by a famous painter, named Johannes Vermeer. Not only this painting was gorgeously painted, but it had a deep story behind it. This painting is a paint of a girl named Griet. She was one of the Vermeer’s maid and Vermeer painted the exact look of her. “I will paint you as I first saw you, Griet, Just you.” I learned a lot of valuable matters from this novel. I learned about artist’s life, maid’s life, and how the masterpiece is created.

I learned a lot about artist’s life after reading this novel. Johannes Vermeer is a married Dutch Baroque painter from the 17^th century. Sometimes his life could be flamboyant, while sometimes, his life could be miserable. The artist’s life in the novel, was portrayed to be a very luminous when it shows Vermeer, painting his masterpiece with all of his emotions. Vermeer’s life was described to be miserable, when the novel illustrates his family and his financial problems. His wife, Catherine Vermeer, does not understand Vermeer’s paint at all. In fact, she only cares about the money that the paint is going to make. Vermeer faces numerous financial problems. As a painter, it is a tough to maintain a good balance financially. They need to buy right materials and have right environments in order to create the masterpiece. His paint was later known as a masterpiece, but not at his time.

Not only I learned about the artist’s life, but I also learned about maid’s life during the 17^th century. Their life was described as dreadfully challanging. The maid in this novel, who is also the main character, is Griet. His dad was a tile painter, but he is now blind due to some accident. Her family is extremely poor. Griet had to work in order to help her family financially. Once she becames the maid of Vermeer’s household, she works all the time. She does all the laundry, cooks food for her master, and she even blends the paint for her master. Working as Vermeer’s maid was also extremely challenging for Griet because while she was cleaning Vermeer’s room, she had to leave it the way it was, since it would effect the painting.

Masterpiece isn’t just created. It is created when the artist puts every detail and every work into it with all of his or her emotion. This novel showed me what it takes in order to create a masterpiece. Vermeer is portrayed to be an exceptional painter. Not noly he blended his own painting, but he even used special tools like Camera to make his painter even more detailed. All the lights, colours, and even the detailness of the paint was carefully examined by Vermeer to create his masterpiece, “Girl With a Pearl Earring” The person in the paint is his own maid, Griet. Her beauty was illustrated exceptionally. This is why this painting became such a masterpiece.

Who would have known that the story behind such painting could have all these wonderful stories behind it? This novel showed about every details of the luminousity and sadness of Vermeer’s life, maid’s challenging life, and about how his extraordinary masterpiece was created.

The virus became worse and worse. Now, the infected people can’t communicate, think, or behave like human. They are different. All they want to do is tocling onto another person and suck their blood or eat their flesh to survive. It is easy to tell who is infected or not. Once they receive the virus from the carrier, they have 5 minutes before they turn violent. 

The survivor’s life was fairly simple. They all take shifts and guard the camp ground. When their shift is over, they have to leave the camp ground in groups of 3 and find some food, ammunition, and survivors and return back to the camp. The curfew is strict. Which means, if they don’t return at the right time, they are considered to be infected, so they wouldn’t be let in.

The radio is kept on at atll the time just in case there might be a broadcast. However, there hasn’t been a single broadcast except for a plain fuzzy sound. They are all alone. Outside of the camp ground, the infected had them completely surrounded.

Before the Government officially announced the anarchy, they bombed the major populated cities to reduce  the spread of the virus. This only made people angry since alot of innocent people died at the same time. Now the government system failed. Now people were on their own. People had right to shoot each other up, and people had right to do what ever they want and get away with it. However, people managed to hold everything together.

There were 12 survivors who survived this disaster. 7 men, 5 women. They stayed together and did their best to survive from the infected people. They guathered weapons, food, water, and clothings. Everyday, they would send some scouts to look for survivors. They didn’t know how long they had to stay alive untill the help arived. They fortified a small school and did everything they could to keep the infected people off.

They had explosives everywhere around the school area, land mines planted on the field, 5 armor piercing machine guns, 2 sniper rifles, 2 assault rifles, 3 shotguns, and 5 handguns. All the windows were completely sealed, and all the doors were barricated. 2 snipers were on guard everytime on the tower they built around the school yard. They were determined to sacrifice their life to exterminate the infected people.

I love all the dystopian stories, so I decided to write a dystpian story myself. 

Everything was going perfect. We lived peacefully. war was over, No more terrorism, and no more distress. Whole world was peaceful. Then one day, a meteorite hit straight into the nuclear power plant in England. At the same time, the biochemical lab also exploded. The effect was unimaginable.

The explosion destroyed everything on its path. However, surprisingly there were a lot of survivors. They were over contaminated with radioactive rays and biochemicals. England had to be concealed and survivors had to be isolated. They all carried this unknown virus. This virus was spread when they came in physical contact with other person. Once a person is infected with this virus, it allowed you to be more physically active. However at the same time, it made you completely insane. You will lose feelings and you will attack everyone that is not infected with this virus. The government blocked the airport, sea port, and all the possible ways that people could go in and out of England. They made a special facility that trapped all the infected people. The containment was believed to be successful. However, soon, the control was lost. the infected people broke through the designated area. The population of the infected are sky rocketing right now. Fortunately, the virus did not go across the other country. However it wouldn’t be too long untill the virus becomes pendamic.

Curfew and Martial law was now active in England. Now the government allowed the citizen to defend themselves from the infected people. They even allowed people to kill the infected people. The whole country was in chaos. Soon, the government system was terminated. Most of the high officals were evacuated and now England faced the Anarchy.

Guess what?? Somebody from France added me on skype and I was able to chat with her I FRENCH! HOW BRILLIANT IS THAT? First, I thought she knew how to speak in English so i said something in English but she didn’t understand at all. But then after, I said some sentences that I knew in French and then we began to chat each other! I would post the chat screenshot to you but because of the security reason, I can’t. Anyways I was kinda amazed at my French skills! It was an interesting experience

Believe it or not, production and consumption of meat is contributing to global warming. Worldwide livestock farming generates more than 18% of the gas emission. In order to produce meat, trees have to be cut down to make farmland, and it takes up nearly one third of the earth’s landmass. Producing meat will also increase pressure on land resources. Numerous planet’s pastureland has been degraded by grazing animals. Much of grain production is fed to animal than to humans. This proves that we can save our planet even just by reducing the producing and consuming meat.

Today, my school rowing team went laser tagging. I had a very difficulties with shooting people, but soon, I was able to snipe people from a great distance with my Semi-automatic Laser Blaster! Then after I came home, I wanted to do some research about Weapons from WWII. Then I found out numerous hidden story treasures behind every weapons.

We’ll start our journey from M1 Garand

Most of you will recognize M1 Garand, since it was highly popular as one of the allied rifles. M1 Garand semi-automatic rifle was designed by John C. Garand (Apparentlly he was Canadian) from United States. It was the first successful semi-automatic rifle that was made from US Army. It was durable, accurate, and it was extremely easy to handle. One thing that gave Americans a huge advantage was that it had 8 rounds of clip to influence and put the enemy down, where as the enemy had only 1 due to their bolt-action rifles like Kar 98. This gave Americans a huge benefit. It even served in Korean War and even in Vietnam War! M1 Garand might be a strong rifle, but it had one imperfection. Its Achilles heels was the “pinging sound” it made after firing the last shot. M1 Garand does not have a magazine to hold its bullets. Instead, it used a clip to hold the bullets together when loaded on the rifle. As a result, after the last shot is fired, the clip automatically ejects itself making a loud distinctive audible noise. When this noise was made, it was clear to everyone, including the Germans, that you’re out. When German soldiers heard this noise, they quickly returned fire. Americans quickly caught up. Soon, they turned this imperfection into an advantage. What they did was, they would fake the pinging sound, so that when the German soldiers lifted their heads to return the fire, Americans quickly gunned them down.

Mauser Karabiner 98k (kar98k)

This 100 years old weapon was held by most of the German soldiers and it was manufactured by Germany. Believe it or not, this weapon was so accurate and powerful that it was even recommended as the weapon of choice for the assisination of Adolf Hitler. Unlike M1 Garand, this rifle was a bolt action rifle, which means that each time the fired bullet had to be manually ejected from the bolt. (this gave them a slower rate of fire than M1 Garand) It was able to hold 5 rounds each clip. Because of its boltaction technology, it was extremely strong. Because of its reputation of accuracy and powerfulness, it was recommended as the weapon of choice for the assisination of the world’s biggest villan, Adolf Hitler, in 1943. The British intelligence was planning on using 2 elite snipers, desguised as german soldiers, to shoot down Hitler. If this plan failed, they were planning on bazuka attack on Hitler’s black bullet proof Mercedez. However, in 1944, they droppted the assination plan. Believe it or not, the reason was that Allied intelligence thought that Hitler’s leadership was destroying Germany better than Allied could.

Sturmgewehr 44 (stg44, mp43)

Sturmgewhr 44 is the first assault rifle ever made. This weapon triggered the concept of “assault rifle”. This weapon was so unique and revolutionary that it was kept secrete from Hitler. As the battle in WWII took place usually in close to mid range setting, German techticians were thinking about which weapons they should distribute to their soldiers. They needed a weapon that could fire fast, accurate, and have more power than submachine guns. As a result, they made STG44, an assault rifle. After this weapon was produced, the weapon designer had to convince HItler. However, for some reason, Hitler thought that Germany’s submachine gun was good enough, so the project was terminated. Even though the project was terminated, the weapon designer secretely produced and distributed the weapon. This powerful weapon gave Germany a huge advantage, but was kept secret from Hitler. 1943 as Hitler was inspecting his soldiers, he found about this weapon. He then realized about how powerful this weapon was, so he began to allow mass production of STG44. However, the war was almost over. If Hitler realized how powerful this weapon was earlier, who knows? Maybe Hitler might have won the war. The production of Sturmgewhr44 triggered the production of AK47, AUG, and other assault rifles.

Here are some of the weapons that were used in WWII. If I had more time, i would have written more about it. Maybe I will write more someday. Anyways this is it for now.

Utopia is the world where everyone is happy in the world of perfection. However, I do not believe that such place will exist. I believe that in order for someone to be happy, another person has to suffer. That’s how the world is and that’s how the world will function till the end. What about a dystopia where people are all miserable? Unfortunately, I my perspective, dystopia might exist. Here is my opinion about what my own dystopia would be like.

My 1st dystopia: Anarchy

I know that there are lots of anarchists around the world right now and I am not sure if I should say stuff about it, since I am just an ordinary kid. However I have to say that being in an Anarchy world will suck. The whole world will be uncontrollable University of Chicago has a building that is designed so that snipers inside can snipe people outside without being exposed by snipers outside. The reason for this structure is because the designer of the building was a strong anarchist.

My 2nd dystopia: Sickness

Strong Disease or virus will spread through out the world. This will cause a huge disorder in our world, eventually killing many innocent people. Who knows? Maybe it will cause a huge confusion, terrorizing everyone in our world. Eventually, martial law might take place in order to bring the order in the world. (maybe I am being paranoid because of this whole swine flu thing”

My 3rd dystopia: Present

Believe it or not, we are living in a dystopian world right now. I mean look at ourselves. Human beings are suffering everyday. We are always trapped in the future instead of living and enjoying the present world. We all have the ability to enjoy ourselves but we always suffering everyday. Sometimes we should just chill, let everything go, and just enjoy the current world.

Well this is it guys. The reason why I decided to write this article is because I am extremely paranoid about this swine flu thing. Let’s just hope and pray that we will all survive this flu.
